How to take the needed measurements
Measurement drawing(note: if you have ordered custom-made vests from InnovAid before, there have been some minor adjustments in the measurement process)

With the child wearing his/her regular clothing, use a tape measure to record the first 5 measurements below. Measure with the tape held snugly but not tightly against the child. You should be able to put two fingers between the tape measure and the child’s clothing. If the tape is pulled too tight, you will not be able to easily insert the two fingers.

  1. Height — Without shoes, the vertical measurement of the child (usually against a wall) from the crown of their head to the soles of their feel.
  2. Vest length — Measure from the top of the spine (there is an indent at the neck base) to where you would like the hem edge of the vest. The vest should NOT be as low as the hip measurement that will be needed later. If the vest is too long, any hem weights will rest on the chair when the child is seated. Below is a guideline of this length based on height. If your child is long or short-waisted, your measurement will be different from the guideline. Vests can be somewhat longer than the guidelines suggest but cannot be made much shorter and still have adequate room for the pockets.
  3. Chest — Measure around the fullest part of the chest. The tape measure should pass horizontally under the armpits, over the shoulder blades and across the chest.
  4. Waist — Horizontally measure around the smallest part of the waist or across the navel area.
  5. Hip — The horizontal measurement taken round the fullest part of the seat.
  6. Weight (approximate)
